What is a Panel Provider?

Some companies advertise that they offer Nationwide EPC Services when in fact what they do is just gather in enquiries, take payment and then pass out the work to local energy assessors at very low rates, sometimes taking as much as 30% of the price you pay in commission.

We feel this is very unfair on the local energy assessor who is asked to work for as little as £20 per epc when lodgement fees are taken into consideration. This is little more than minimum wage when you also take travelling time and expenses into account.

An Energy Performance Certificate is an important document and the survey should always be carried out professionally and the correct amount of time taken to gather the required information.

When assessors are forced to work for minimum wages they often try to to fit in many epc's per day and therefore shortcuts are taken on the work which leads to an inacurate epc being produced.

You will know if you are dealing with a panel when you call a company and you are asked to pay for the EPC BEFORE the survey is undertaken and sometimes even BEFORE an appointment is made. This is because the booking company will need to liase with yourself and then find a local assessor who can attend.

You should NEVER pay for an EPC Survey until the day the survey is completed.

Paying in advance can leave you with problems if the assessor does not arrive and can often lead to cancelled appointments, re booking etc.
